With the threat of COVID-19, health is on everyone’s minds. Even though you are being careful, washing your hands, and staying home, you may still feel like you’re not doing enough to stay safe. What more can you do to stay healthy?

Your immune system is developed early in life from a mix of nutrients and overcoming infections. It typically worsens later in life with old age. Did you know it can weaken at any time, due to unhealthy habits? Here are some ways to keep your immune system strong and healthy.

1. Adequate Sleep

Try and keep consistent hours sleep every night. Your body works better when you are on a routine with your sleep patterns. Aim for around seven to nine hours of restful sleep.

2. Daily Exercise

Staying in motion as opposed to not is almost always better for the body. Not everyone can complete a full workout every day, but something is better than nothing. A minimum goal to have is thirty minutes of exercise three times a week. Keep the effort level at a brisk walk. An even better goal is to work out five to six times per week for an hour. Contrary to popular belief, working out more than that is not necessarily better.

3. Proper Nutrition

Try not to overeat, as a lot of people eat more than is necessary for a healthy immune system. Keep a balanced diet of whole, non processed foods and maintain sufficient fiber intake. Find the best mix for you, since there is no one “best” diet. Don’t forget to stay hydrated!
