Platelet-Rich Plasma

Leveraging the body’s innate healing capability, this therapy uses substances created by the body to heal and regenerate itself. Blood is drawn, placed in a centrifuge and spun at different speeds in order to obtain specific components that are known to stimulate healing of bone and soft tissue.

Specifically, these substances – all of which are known to be protagonists of healing in conjunction with one another or separately – are known to be collected and concentrated in the process and include: platelet-derived growth factor, insulin-like growth factors 1 and 2, fibroblast growth factor, transforming growth factor beta, vascular endothelial growth factor, epidermal growth factor, Interleukin 8, connective tissue growth factor, and keratinocyte growth factor.

Because these substances are autologous (from one’s own body) there is no risk of rejection and they are proven safe.

Recent U.S. studies are confirming Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy’s (PRPT’s) efficacy and the FDA has approved its use in the United States, eliminating the need to fly to other countries where it has already been used significantly longer and successfully.

In our office we often combine the use of Adult Stem Cells (ASC’s) along with PRPT to provide the undifferentiated cells needed for repair along with the growth factors that drive the process of healing, regeneration and rejuvenation.
